The frontline workforce represents the diversity of the U.S. They are racially and ethnically diverse, ranging from teens through post-retirement. They speak a variety of languages and have a wide range of educational levels.* It’s important that every applicant understands the StellarEmploy job survey so that we can draw conclusions uniformly and hire effectively.
StellarEmploy worked with research firm WestEd to design our job surveys responsibly - removing bias and boosting reliability. In this paper, we describe the (sometimes surprising) ways surveys become unreliable. From applicants changing their answers to “please” the surveyor to varying perceptions on “a lot” versus “a little,” we outline techniques for more effective and fair hiring surveys.
